A NOTE FROM STEPHANIE LAKE
Welcome to our show. Mix Tape is about love. Admittedly I squirm at the cliché but I’m fairly certain I’m not alone in my preoccupation. In a world where so much is faked and fabricated we search for truth in one another, for true intimacy. Love takes pride of place as the meaning of life. It shapes our decisions and fills our heads and despite the potential pain and agony of love gone wrong still we seek it out. Terrible as love is, we’d surely be worse off without it. Creating this work offered me the chance to indulge three of my top fascinations - chorerography, music and people’s stories. I interviewed many friends and strangers as part of this process and I am so grateful for their frank and funny responses to some curly questions. I am overflowing with gratitude to the dancers and designers and all at Chunky Move for helping me to realise this work with such good humour and creativity. Hope you enjoy.
