Erna Omarsdottir - Direction and Choreography
Erna graduated from PARTS in Belgium in 1998, and since then has worked as a dancer with various companies and choreographers including Troubleyn / Jan Fabre, creating and performing in various works. Since 2002 she has worked with Les Ballet C dela B and Sidi Larbi Cherkoui. Her most recent projects include IBM 1401 (a users manual) created in cooperation with the Musician/ Composer Johann Johannsson. Erna has performed her own work and that of others all over the world and in recent years has been invited to some of the most renowned festivals and venues. She has received Best Young Dancer and Best Young Choreographer numerous times by Ballettanz International Dance Magazine.
Erna’s recent works currently touring Europe include The Mysteries of Love, The Talking Tree and Teach Us to Outgrow Our Madness. She is a founding member of the Poni Collective and with Damien Jalet created the short films Unclear Age and Ofaett. Erna has also collaborated with visual artist Gabriela Fridriksdottir at the Venize Bienale 2005 and Icelandic singer Bjork on her videoclip Medulla.
Chunky Move has commissioned Erna together with Damien Jalet to Direct and Choreograph the full-length work Black Marrow in 2009.
