Adam Wheeler - Choreographer

Adam is a graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts and joined Chunky Move in his final year of study. From 2004-2009 he performed and taught for the company nationally, across the USA, Canada and New Zealand. He has also danced for Circa Nica (2008) and Jo Lloyd (2008). Adam was shortlisted for two Australian Dance Awards in 2009 for Uncover This and in 2003 he was the winner of the Melbourne Fringe Festival’s Most Outstanding Movement award for 3 Day Growth.

Adam is currently the Artistic Associate of Stompin (Tasmania), which specialise in making dance work with young people. In 2008 he was the inaugural recipient of the Stompin Fellowship and has made four works for the company This Dance Is Who We Are (2009), 23 (2009) Uncover This (2008) and Bone Dry and Green (2006). Adam is also the Artistic Director of 2ndToe Dance Collective, which have made several works including Something Blew (2010), ReelLIVE (2010) and Adam Turns 26 (2007). Adam’s passion for the development of dance with young people has seen him work with Steps Youth Dance Company, Phoenix (Perth) and Quantum Leap (Canberra), as well as The Australian Ballet on their Out There Program (2006). Adam was the choreographer and workshop leader at The Australian Youth Dance Festival (2009), choreographer for the Adelaide Centre for the Arts Graduation Showcase Season (2008) and the Artistic Director of the St Michaels Grammar School’s Dance Fusion Program (2003-2008).

In 2011 Adam will make work with QL2, Stompin and Fling Physical Theatre. He regularly teaches for Chunky Move, Ballet Theatre Australia, Dance World Studios, National Theatre Ballet School and schools across Victoria and Tasmania. Adam is the Director & Choreographer for Chunky Move's It Sounds Silly.
