James Pham

Born and raised in Perth, Western Australia, James Pham spent most of his life training as an aspiring musician before his passion took an unexpected turn for Dance. Mid 2008, Pham decided to attend regular hip hop classes, receive full time classical training at the Graduate College of Dance, and joined STEPS Youth Dance Company under the directorship of Sam Fox, followed by Alice Lee Holland.

In late 2009, Pham successfully auditioned for the New Zealand School of Dance and on completion of second year, successfully auditioned for Chunky Move, joining the company for Anouk va Dijk's debut production, An Act of Now (Melbourne Festival, 2012).

Over the course of tertiary training he has performed with Taane Mete & Taiaroa Royale's He Taonga, in World of Wearable Arts under the directorship of Malia Johnston, in Ross McCormack's SUM and Maria Dabrowska's Recent Bedrooms. Before Pham began his training at the New Zealand School of Dance, he took part in Alice Lee Holland's first development of Tiny Little Tragedies to be performed in August 2012 as a full-length work.
